Anna Mykhalchuk is a Ukrainian-Australian artist, muralist and cultural practitioner based in Hobart, Tasmania. Her work is deeply inspired by Samchykivka, a Ukrainian decorative art tradition known for its rhythmic floral forms, symbolic imagery and vibrant storytelling.
Through murals, exhibitions, workshops and collaborative projects, Anna explores the connection between cultural heritage, women’s resilience, migration, creativity and wellbeing. Her practice brings Ukrainian folk-inspired visual language into contemporary spaces, often blending traditional motifs with Australian nature, local stories and community themes.
Anna is the co-creator of Rising Swallow / Політ Ластівки, a Samchykivka-inspired metaphorical card deck for reflection, inner strength and renewal, created in collaboration with psychologist Yuliia Hubarieva and featuring artworks by Ukrainian women artists from Ukraine and the diaspora. The project celebrates art as a tool for self-support, connection and cultural continuity.
