The project grows from the multilayered history of Bucovina, a borderland region where cultures, languages, and empires have overlapped for centuries.
My own family carries this complexity: on my father’s side, Romanian (or is it Moldovan?) heritage intersects with Soviet assimilation, producing a mixed identity where memory is fragmented, partly embodied, partly forgotten.
Working with my father’s photographs, I trace a landscape of omissions, retellings, and silent gaps — the subtle ways in which we edit our past to make it bearable, beautiful, or simply coherent.
