The Berufsvereinigung Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Vorarlbergs (Professional Association of Visual Artists of Vorarlberg, Austria), founded in 1947, will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2027. This milestone is not only an opportunity to reflect on eight decades of artistic practice, exhibitions, and collective experience, but also a moment to look toward the future.
Throughout 2027, a series of exhibitions and events will take place at the Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis in Bregenz, bringing together past, present, and future. The anniversary programme is conceived as a space for dialogue, where the institution’s history meets broader social and cultural processes.
This open call invites artists to explore different temporal dimensions — 1947, 2027, and 2107 — and to propose artistic responses to questions of memory, community, and the future.
The organisers welcome a wide range of formats and approaches. Submissions may include:
— artworks and artistic projects
— process-based and research-driven practices
— interventions and performances
— compositions
— discursive formats
Projects are especially encouraged that:
— combine retrospective perspectives with visions of the future
— rethink the notion of community
— engage with themes of continuity, change, and transformation
— create connections between the years 1947, 2027, and 2107
The anniversary year also places emphasis on the practice of “listening” as a way of creating an open and hospitable space for interaction, exchange, and critical dialogue. In addition to exhibitions, the programme may include lectures, readings, discussions, and experimental formats.
Application deadline: April 26, 2026
This open call is an opportunity not only to reflect on the past, but also to imagine the future and become part of a major anniversary programme in Bregenz.
